Faakhta is the dove, and the soft grey it gives this shawl is the exact colour of one, calm and cool from end to end. Against that quiet sky a single Kani garden opens at the border, flowers in every bright colour, as if the dove had carried spring back with it.

Handwoven in Kashmir from pure Ladakhi Pashmina, combed from the Changthangi goat. The body is dyed a soft even dove grey, finished with a fine gold line along the edge. The border is worked in the Kani technique by a master kani-baf reading from a coded talim, a vivid floral spray in pink, orange, blue, yellow, and green, closing in a striped panel.

Grey is the most modern of grounds and the hardest to dye evenly, and a vivid Kani garden set against it is a study in restraint and release. Kani is the most exclusive of Kashmiri weaves. A collector piece, neutral enough to wear with anything and singular enough to be remembered.
