Description

A natural taupe Pashmina shawl with a wide border worked entirely in tonal white Sozni — arched paisleys and floral lines in ivory thread against the undyed ground. Marmar is the Persian word for marble; the white motifs read like carving laid over stone, the pairing of marble and sandstone seen on the old monuments.

Pure Pashmina from the Changthangi goats of Ladakh, combed by hand each spring above 14,000 feet, the ground left in its natural undyed tone. Handwoven in Srinagar, then taken to a sozni karigar who works the entire wide border by hand in single-thread white needlework. A fine fringe finishes the edges.

White-on-natural is the most restrained way to wear a big border — ornate in form, quiet in colour, the work read in texture rather than contrast. The border alone holds weeks of needlework. Cruelty-free fibre, fair-wage karigars, each shawl signed by the master.
