Description

This is the piece the whole collection builds toward. A pale natural ground all but vanishes under a field worked in the full spectrum, paisley and flowering vine hand-embroidered so densely that colour runs to every edge, broken only by striped panels of orange, pink and green.

Every motif is set by needle in fine Sozni, shade laid against shade in a design that never repeats and never rests. Work of this density and range is a very long stretch of months at the needle, the mark of a master hand holding an entire palette and an intricate structure together across the whole cloth. Close up the pattern keeps opening, paisley within floral within vine, each passage its own study.

The base is pure Ladakhi Pashmina, warm and light beneath the weight of the work. A piece at this level is worn simply, over a plain kurta, so it stands entirely alone. This is the summit of Kashmir's craft, a shawl made to keep and to pass on.
