Description

Arghawan, the imperial violet is the classical Persian name for the deepest royal purple, the colour of the Judas tree at full bloom and the robes once reserved for kings. The ground holds that colour without compromise. Along the edges, a continuous sozni vine in coral, rose, and gold runs like a hand-set seam a quiet flame against the violet.

The fibre is pure Ladakhi Pashmina, combed from the Changthangi goat at altitudes above 14,000 feet. It is handwoven in Srinagar on a traditional Kashmiri loom in fine twill, then hand-embroidered in single-thread sozni with a continuous floral hashia on all four sides, with a small ornamental buti at the corner. The piece closes with a clean self-fringe.

Sozni is among Kashmir's oldest needle arts, carried within karigar households for generations. The fibre is cruelty-free, combed at the spring moult, and the artisans are paid fair wages. Small-batch, signed by its maker, made for the colour to be earned, not merely worn.
