Description

Daastan-e-Kohan means "the ancient tale" — and a jamawar is exactly that: a story told in thread, carried across the whole surface of the cloth. This shawl reads like a chronicle, its natural-taupe ground worked end to end in ivory, with a grand ornamental medallion anchoring the design.

The ground is fine-twill pure Ladakhi Pashmina in its undyed taupe tone, handwoven in Srinagar on a traditional Kashmiri loom. Over it, a master artisan has hand-embroidered sozni jamawar — interlocking paisleys, floral lattices, and scrolling vines framed by wide ornate borders and a decorated end panel. The whole field is built one single-needle stitch at a time.

Jamawar of this structure and density belongs to the highest tier of Kashmiri craft, and an embroidered example is rarer still. This is an exclusive, single-batch piece, made by fair-wage artisans over many months. Acquired once, and kept for generations.
