Description

A trellis of fine sozni cast across natural beige Pashmina — small floral clusters and paisleys held within each diamond of the lattice, worked in pink, coral, orange, mustard, and plum. Jali is the Urdu word for the pierced stone latticework of Mughal architecture; this cloth carries the same logic in thread.

Pure Pashmina from the Changthangi goat of Ladakh — gathered above 14,000 feet at the spring moult, left in its natural fibre tone. Once woven in Srinagar in fine twill, the cloth reaches a sozni karigar; every vine, every flower cluster within the lattice worked by single-thread needlework. A self-fringe finishes the edge.

Lattice jaal — jaalidar in Kashmiri vocabulary — is one of the oldest sozni registers, descended directly from Mughal architectural ornament. Months of work go into a single piece. Cruelty-free fibre, fair-wage karigars, every shawl signed by the master who completed it.
