Description

A dove-grey Pashmina with a wide ornate hashia and scattered sozni buti — paisleys and small medallions across the body, worked in copper, rust, bronze, and burgundy thread. Mehtab is the Urdu word for moonlight; the cloth carries exactly that silvered quality, with the embroidery glowing through like copper at low light.

Pure Pashmina from Ladakh's Changthangi goat — gathered above 14,000 feet at the spring moult, dyed once in dove grey. Woven in Srinagar in fine twill, the cloth then reaches a sozni karigar; the wide border and every scattered buti worked by single-thread needlework. A self-fringe finishes the edge.

Bordered buti compositions like this one — wide hashia with scattered buti across an open body — are Kashmir's quieter sozni register. Less crowded than full jaal, more refined than plain weave. Cruelty-free fibre, fair-wage karigars, each shawl signed by the master who completed it.
