Description

A field at dawn — small flowers strewn across a soft pink ground. Each buti was placed by hand in single-thread sozni: a tiny bouquet here, a paisley there, deliberately scattered so the eye keeps moving. Lala in Urdu means tulip; the shawl reads as a meadow of them.

Pure Pashmina from Ladakh's Changthangi goat — found only above 14,000 feet — is the one fibre fine enough to hold sozni at this delicacy. The wool is spun and woven in Srinagar before the karigar begins, each buti placed with patience that cannot be hurried. A self-fringe closes the edge.

Sozni buti is among the oldest forms of Kashmiri needle craft, taught within karigar households for generations. Wool is gathered from the spring moult, with no shearing; embroiderers are paid fair daily wages and work from home. Every shawl carries the signature of its maker.
