Description

A Pashmina shawl woven in fine multi-colour stripe — rust, olive, teal and grey shifting like an old tapestry — finished at one end with a wide border of large paisleys in many-coloured Sozni on olive-gold. Dhoop-chhaon means sunlight and shadow, the Urdu name for cloth that shifts colour as it moves; the striped body does just that.

Pure Pashmina from the Changthangi goats of Ladakh, combed by hand each spring above 14,000 feet. The striped body is handwoven from dyed yarns; the wide border is then hand-embroidered in single-thread Sozni, paisley by paisley, in Kashmir. A fine fringe finishes the edges.

A wide-bordered shawl carries its drama at the ends — a quiet, shifting body that lifts into one richly worked band. The border alone holds weeks of needlework over the woven ground. Cruelty-free fibre, fair-wage karigars, each shawl signed by the master.
