Description

Black and white, and nothing wasted. The ground is deep black, covered edge to edge in a flowering vine hand-embroidered in bright white, the contrast sharp enough that every stem reads clean against the dark.

The whole cloth is worked by needle in fine Sozni, an unbroken jaal that climbs the field and settles into a bordered edge of hanging buds at the fall. Filling a black ground this completely is months at the needle, one artisan holding a single design across the entire piece, and white on black leaves no room for a hidden stitch. The result is graphic and precise, formal in the strongest sense.

The base is pure Ladakhi Pashmina, warm and light beneath the embroidery, finished with black fringe. A piece this striking carries a black kurta or a bandhgala with real authority. This is the exclusive end of Kashmir's craft, made to keep and to pass on.
