Description

Khizan-o-Bahar means autumn and spring, the two seasons Kashmir wears best, held here in a single field. Across a deep charcoal ground the chinar leaves fall in both registers at once, spring green and turquoise beside autumn orange, gold, and rose, a whole year of the valley scattered over one cloth.

Handwoven in Kashmir from pure Ladakhi Pashmina, combed from the Changthangi goat. This is an oversized all-over Kani, the field worked edge to edge by a master kani-baf reading from a coded talim, each colour set by hand with a small wooden toji. The ends close in a red floral band and a striped panel hung with small woven flowers.

An all-over Kani at oversized scale is among the largest undertakings a Kashmiri loom accepts, the talim running the full length with no plain ground to rest in. Kani is the most exclusive of Kashmiri weaves. A collector piece that wraps like a cloak and carries a full year of the valley in its field.
