Description

Kani with its colour saved for the finish. The body is a warm olive-brown, plain and even, the sort of deep earthy tone a man reaches for when he wants weight without noise, left bare so the border can carry the whole design.

The loom work gathers at the fall. A broad band of flowering vine is woven across the end in bright pink, teal, red and green over a pale ground, built on the loom a line at a time with the kani technique and finished with woven stripe blocks below it. Because the pattern is worked into the cloth rather than stitched on, it reads on both faces and holds its place as the shawl moves. Natural fringe closes each end.

The base is pure Ladakhi Pashmina, warm and light in the drape. This is Kani for a man who likes a quiet field and a striking edge, easy over a black kurta or a bandhgala. A rare weave made to keep.
