Description

Kani, worked in a quieter key than the palace pieces. The body is a warm natural taupe, crossed by fine blue pinstripe woven straight into the cloth, so the base reads earthy and modern rather than ceremonial.

The loom does the talking at the ends. Broad bands of orange, teal and rust stripe the fall, with a scrolling floral vine woven alongside in soft multicolour, the whole pattern built on the loom a line at a time with the kani technique rather than stitched on after. Because the colour is woven through, the design reads on both faces and settles into the cloth as it moves. Natural fringe finishes each end.

The base is pure Ladakhi Pashmina, warm and light in the drape. This is Kani for a man who wants the craft without the formality, easy over a black kurta or thrown open on a coat. A rare weave to own and to keep.
