Zar-o-Gul — "gold and rose" — pairs the two oldest Persian images of value and beauty: the metal that keeps its worth, the flower that has only its hour. A deep antique-gold body that turns olive in the light opens at its borders into a midnight garden in full bloom.

Hand-woven in Kashmir from pure Ladakhi Pashmina, combed from the Changthangi goat. The body is a do-rangi cloth — warp and weft in two related colours that shift between gold and olive as the cloth moves. The borders are worked in the Kani technique by a master kani-baf reading from a coded talim, with a dense floral jaal in wine, magenta, teal, ivory, and orange on a deep navy ground.

Wide-border Kani in a do-rangi gold body is a senior weaver's piece. The combination — golden field, dark border, jewel-toned florals — is the classical Mughal pairing. A formal evening shawl, made to be passed down.
