Description

Sahar-o-Bahar — "dawn and spring" — names the first hour of a Kashmiri morning, when light is still grey on ivory and the year's first flowers begin to colour. The shawl carries that hour: fine dark lines through a pale ground, opening at the borders into a quiet pastel garden.

Hand-woven in Kashmir from pure Ladakhi Pashmina, combed from the Changthangi goat. The body is woven in fine pencil-stripes of dark grey on ivory — a restrained palette demanding precision at the loom. The borders carry a pastel floral Kani jaal in coral, mustard, sky blue, plum, and rose on ivory, worked from a coded talim by a master kani-baf.

Pale-ground Kani is the quieter side of the craft — it gives nowhere for a mis-coded thread to hide. Fine-stripe body and pastel floral border together carry a morning hour onto cloth. A daytime piece. Worn often, kept always.
