Description

Qalam is the Persian word for the pen or brush. This handwoven stole looks painted with one, broad, soft-edged bands of natural ivory, warm camel and smoky charcoal drifting across the cloth like brushstrokes on paper. No two stripes are quite alike.

The stole is handwoven in Srinagar on a traditional Kashmiri loom from pure Ladakhi Pashmina, in the undyed naturals of the Changthangi goat with a single smoky charcoal. The painterly bands are woven, not printed or embroidered. Light and softly structured, it drapes close and warms without weight.

This soft, brushed effect is patient work at the loom, where each band must blend into the next by hand. Made in small batches by fair-wage artisans, this is everyday luxury with the quiet of an ink-wash painting.
