Description

The Saffron Bagh takes its name from the all-over sozni jaal — a garden of vines and small blooms worked across both faces of the shawl. One face is warm saffron-mustard, the other a burnt rust. Bagh is the old Urdu word for a garden — and that is what this shawl is: a full garden, embroidered on both sides.

The fibre is pure Ladakhi Pashmina, combed from the Changthangi goat at altitudes above 14,000 feet, handwoven in Srinagar as do-rangi — two-coloured, two-faced. The entire body is then hand-embroidered in do-rukha sozni jaal — single-thread needlework worked across both faces. The piece closes with a clean self-fringe.

Do-rangi do-rukha jaal is the rarest discipline in Kashmiri shawl craft — two grounds, both faces fully embroidered, work measured in years rather than months. The fibre is cruelty-free, the artisans are paid fair wages, and every shawl is signed by its maker. A piece for the collector who already knows.
